Scope

The Capital projects team of the University were looking at replacing its 40 year old mastic asphalt roof which had a concrete wear slab protection on top.  The existing roof had limited fall so therefore once again mastic asphalt was chosen due to its monolithic capabilities that would not impede water flow like sheet membranes. Some existing design details were flawed and had to be thought through by Salmond Reed Architects and Asphaltech.

Solution

Pacoflex Mastic Asphalt was then selected for the re-roofing of this project.  The solution was complete replacement and involved strip the existing concrete wear slab and existing mastic asphalt surface and replace it with new mastic asphalt, then paint the roof with a solar reflective coating and Install new cover flashings.

Asphaltech and their qualified tradesmen were the main contractors intrusted to carry out the installation of the mastic asphalt to 500m2 of the roof, detailing complex shapes and consulting on design throughout the project with Phillip Hartley the Project Architect.
